Je Souhaite -- Off the Top of My Head (SPOILERS) CAUTION: The end of this post includes spoilers for the teaser for Requiem. Spoiler space is provided. **** Well, after Fight Club, Je Souhaite was certainly a breath of fresh air. Although this made three humorous eps in a row, I'm happy to say that my fears of last week (that this ep was going to be another weak link) were unfounded. What I liked: - The actress who played Jenn. The disdain, the expressions, and the gestures were all perfect, IMO. - The special effects. Anson turning invisible, the evidence of him running outside his home, how his body was discovered, and the powder covering his corpse were all flawless, IMO. Kudos to the entire special effects team. - Mulder saying "Scully" as he stood in the empty street after making his first wish. I guess Vince is paying some attention to continuity in the 'ship. Glad somebody is besides the actors. - Mulder taking back his first wish and POOF! there's Skinner's meeting right behind him. I should have seen that coming sooner, but you got me, Vince. - Moose and Squirrel enjoying an evening together. For a moment I feared that Vince had Mulder use his 3rd wish for an intimate evening with the luscious Agent Scully (of course, those of you who believe that they're already SO doing it would never have entertained that thought ), but it turned out that they were just -- gasp! -- kicking back, watching a movie, and having a couple brews. Who woulda thunk it. Thanks for not disappointing me, Vince, leading me to... - Mulder's 3rd wish. Okay, I *did* see it coming when Jenn described how she'd gotten the wish-granting job, but it still made me happy that Mulder "released" her. Go ahead, call me a sap. What I didn't like: - Post-operative Mr. Gilmore. That sight made me queasy because it reminded me of the end of Fight Club. Too bad these eps had to be back-to-back. What's got me puzzled: - Why hasn't Vince been allowed/encouraged to direct before? If there's a Season 8, I want this man behind a camera again. I never would have guessed that this was his directorial debut. Je Souhaite wasn't as clever as Bad Blood, and the Stokes brothers were a bit too over the top for me even for a humor ep. But this was a good, solid story with no jarring plotholes that I noticed, I was entertained, and I felt good about the ep when it was over. How can I not give that a thumbs up? REQUIEM TEASER: * * * s p o i l e r s p a c e * * * I've read some of the general spoilers, and call me an optimist but I still have high hopes for the season finale. We've got the Gunmen, CSM, the Bounty Hunter, Krycek, Marita, and Skinner tossed in with some familiar faces from the pilot. As long as we don't see Gibson Praise, black oil, bees, Samantha, Cassandra Spender, Jeffrey Spender, or Diana Fowley (they ain't dead if there's no body, and sometimes even *that* isn't proof), I'd like to think that CC might have crafted a finale that's true to the characters, makes us care what happens next to them, *and* leaves us satisfied (or at least not dissatisfied ). Really, is that too much to ask, Mr. Carter? I know you can do it if you really want to. Or, if necessary, I'll use my first wish for that. ;)
