COMPARING VALUE

When he brought her to the very plausible state of 
Oregon, she was wary. She'd heard all about him, 
listened to all the incredulous remarks from her co-
workers when they learned of her transfer. "God, Dana, 
you're committing professional suicide. You might as well 
resign."

Eight years, a few government conspiracies, assorted 
trips to both ends of the earth and several hundred alien-
chasing, liver-eating, cockroach-infested, ghost-busting 
cases later, she wonders if they were right all along.

If being dragged on this harum-scarum ride into his 
world of make-believe, listening to him brush aside her 
science and poke fun at her dog and embarrass her daily 
was worth it. If he was worth it.

He refused to let her sacrifice her name to save his. Held 
her through confusion and tears, when she didn't know 
where to go or who to trust.

Now he's agreed to father her child, change her life. Yes, 
he's worth it.
