And with that Spender left, leaving him with a twisted, poisoned
feeling that he doubted his medication could alleviate.

Perhaps a different type of medication might help.

But first, God help him, he had to talk to Fox.  There was no doubt
in his mind that Fox would find his name in those files; he had to
explain everything to him so he would understand.  He needed to see
how it was back then, how difficult the choices were.  The pressure,
the complications, the politics.

The merchandise.

Yes, he could make him understand.  Fox was a smart man when he
didn't let his stubborn, righteous indignation get in the way.  At
the same time, though, he had to admire that trait.  At least his son
knew what he believed.

At that moment, the only thing Bill Mulder believed was that he would
have another drink.
