POSTED: 12/22/2017 **** Christmas Eve 1997, 4:20 a.m. **** Scully attempts sleep, catching it in minutes here and there. Emily weighs on her mind; the unfamiliar bed doesn’t help. Muffled voices come through the wall from Bill and Tara’s bedroom. Not eavesdropping, Scully thinks. Ensuring no medical assistance needed. Baby overdue. They say, barely audible: Dana’s case made me think. Life can be cruel and uncertain. Look at this sick little girl that Dana wants to help. What would happen to our child if we were gone? Godparents, they discuss. Guardians. Their parents? Charlie? Dana? No perfect answer. Either older, not around, or doing dangerous work. No conclusion reached except that there’s no conclusion. Scully wonders who she would choose if she had a child. Who could she trust? Bill and Tara? Mom? Mulder? No conclusion reached for her, either. Besides, she knows a child is no longer an option for her. Focus, Dana: take care of Emily. She needs you. Melissa said so. END **** Author's notes: Frohike insisted I write this, but wouldn't tell me anything more. Read into that what you will. Feedback is better than spiked eggnog: Bjm1352@aol.com Thanks for reading. May you and yours have a wonderful holiday season and a happy, peaceful New Year.
